My first editor's corner! I have to say, it's cool to see my name and picture in FierceVoIP. I've been behind the scenes at FierceMarkets since 2006 jealously inserting other editors' pictures into the newsletters each week. FierceVoIP was one of the first publications I ever read and edited in my early days at Fierce. Back then, Dan Rosenbaum and I would spar over content, prose and the style guide, but we always got a pretty solid issue out and into your inboxes. Hopefully a little bit of his wisdom and skill rubbed off.
Although I came over from the FierceWireless side of things, I'm glad to see there is some overlap into the VoIP space to ease my 'migration.' Just this week the wireless world and the VoIP world have collided a few times. Vonage launched its international calling mobile VoIP app for the iPhone which uses local calling and caller minutes to make discount international calls circumventing the data plan. AT&T even won applause from both consumers and FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski by approving the use of VoIP applications over its 3G network on the iPhone.
As a tech junkie, I'm also excited to explore the FierceVoIP tagline--What's next in IP communications. Let's make FierceVoIP the place to discuss that future. Please do not hesitate to email me at mike@fiercemarkets.com with any news tips, inquiries, releases or chances to talk one-on-one. As I get more situated, I'd love to hear from you. -Mike
