Despite Nortel's bankruptcy troubles and sluggish spending among its enterprise networking customers (http://www.fiercetelecom.com/story/nortel-enterprise-customers-slow-purchasing/2009-05-25), the Canadian telecom equipment giant still managed to land a big customer win for a VoIP network upgrade. Kabel BW, a German cable operator, today announced it will deploy the Nortel CS 2000 VoIP softswitch to provide telephony and multimedia services to its nearly 3.5 million customers in Germany's Baden Wurttemberg region.
As part of the deployment, Kabel BW also is upgrading its network to meet the SIP and Packet Cable Multimedia standard. The German cable operator did not release how many Nortel switches it would be purchasing for the upgrade, or any other financial details of the transaction.
