Going public. Making deals with Avaya. Getting bought by Facebook. When will the Skype news end? Late breaking news today has TechCrunch reporting that Cisco SVP Tony Bates will be joining Skype as CEO.

Currently Bates runs the $20 Billion business of Cisco's Enterprise group responsible for around half the companies business, which might give you some idea as to what Skype hopes to accomplish in the future. TechCrunch speculates Bates wouldn't leave his current role if he wasn't convinced Skype was planning on being a major player in the space.

The current CEO Josh Silverman is moving on to other things while it looks like the Skype IPO is going forward. Apparently all the rumors pointing to Cisco buying Skype were really just Skype wooing Bates to run Skype as CEO. Does this mean Mark Zuckerberg is going to get hired by Skype as well?
