View Full Version : Egypt's ban on mobile VoIP makes Skype mad

Telecom Egypt, the state owned telephone company, saw its revenue dip 13 percent in 2009 and the government found that it was largely due to international VoIP calls taking away its business.

The government did what any government would do when they saw something was hurting their coffers, make the offending action illegal. Well, to be fair, they only banned mobile international VoIP calls, but that still has one company a little angry. Skype, a provider of such mobile international VoIP calls, questioned the state ruling, imploring the government to allow consumers to choose the winners and losers using the free market.
