Logitech--who up until this point focused primarily on computer peripherals and webcams--has just taken a cue from Cisco and snapped up Austin-based LifeSize Communications. Logitech purchased the HD video communications equipment vendor for $405 million in cash on Tuesday moving its video play from consumer desktops and into the enterprise.
With 9,000 customers in 80 countries, LifeSize will allow Logitech to put its presence in small- and medium-sized businesses, educational facilities, healthcare operations and in home offices. The move takes it to the big leagues in telepresence competing with Cisco--currently dealing with its own in-the-works acquisition of TANDBERG (http://www.fiercevoip.com/story/cisco-tandberg-deal-only-has-9-37-shareholder-acceptance/2009-11-11)--and Polycom.
