Sprint announced the availability of the Partner Interexchange Network (PIN) for its business customers. The Sprint PIN service creates a community of partners to exchange VoIP service between each other while operating on Sprint’s global Tier 1 IP network. Because the service involves a direct exchange, termination and LEC tandem fees are lowered or eliminated--passing cost savings on to customers. Avoiding PSTN voice connections, the Sprint service uses a switchless routing framework based on SIP. Customers using PIN will be charged at a lower rate than those using traditional PSTN networks.
Scalability is addressed through the community architecture: the larger the network of partners, the greater the voice traffic that the PIN can support. “We are seeing greater demand for Voice over IP services. As more companies adopt VoIP and migrate away from traditional TDM voice services, there is a definite need for affordable, scalable technologies to securely exchange voice traffic. This is what PIN provides,” said Dan Dooley, president of Sprint Wholesale Solutions in a release.
