Sabse Technologies, a VoIP services company based in Mountain View, Calif., has acquired Mobivox for an undisclosed amount, according to Tech Crunch (http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/09/25/hotmail-co-founders-new-firm-acquires-a-second-voip-startup-mobivox). Mobivox, which expanded into mobile VoIP and cloud-based voice applications, drew down an $11 million round of venture funding in 2007 from Flybridge Capital, IDG Ventures and Brightspark Ventures.
Mobivox is Sabse's second IP communications buy this year, as it acquired Jaxtr (http://www.fiercevoip.com/story/jaxtr-bought-sabse-technologies/2009-06-09), a VoIP company offering calling through social networking, in June.
This acquisition appears to show that Sabse is intent on acquiring VoIP and IP communications plays to combine several "feature, not a company" companies into a serious player. Sabse has not raised outside capital that it has announced, according to TechCrunch, signaling a healthy personal backing, which is not surprising considering co-founder Sabeer Bhatia also co-founded Hotmail, sold to Microsoft for $400 million (http://www.brighthub.com/office/entrepreneurs/articles/46717.aspx) in 1997.
